Chicago beginner looking to get into real cave exploration

Hey everyone! I’m in the Chicago area and looking to connect with some experienced cavers or a group that would be willing to bring a complete beginner along.
I just finished my first cave tour and absolutely loved it. The whole time, though, I kept looking at the passages and areas we weren’t allowed to go into and thinking, “I want to explore THAT.”
I’ve been searching around since then, but most of what I’m finding are commercial guided tours where you follow a designated path. I’d really like to experience actual wild cave exploration.
I have basically zero experience, so I’m definitely not looking to wander into a cave alone or have someone just send me coordinates. I’d much rather go with people who know what they’re doing and learn proper safety, gear, conservation, and caving etiquette along the way.
I’m in Chicago but totally willing to drive a few hours into Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, etc. for a good trip.
If anyone here goes caving, belongs to a local grotto, or knows a group that welcomes beginners, I’d love to connect. Not asking anyone to publicly share sensitive/hidden cave locations - just hoping to meet some people who actually explore them.
Thanks!
