Movie Recommendation: Fight Back To School (1991) : A 21 Jump Street inspired HK Action/Comedy
Dunno if this has been recommended lately but OMG I watched this movie yesterday and it was HILARIOUS! If you like HK action comedy films then you'll probably like this. The comedy is pretty goofy and over the top which works for the characters. Lead actor Stephen Chow as Star Chow/Chow Sing Sing is great as the undercover cop who has to infiltrate a school as a student so he can get the police chief's gun back.
Chow is supported by Ng Man-Tat as his fellow undercover cop in the plot and he's freakin' funny as hell as the incompetent partner. There's also a bit of a friendship formed between Chow and a student called Turtle. Of course there's also a bit of a love side story but it isn't too bad mainly because for most of the runtime it's played for laughs.
There are two demerits, one directly involving the film and the other that can't be helped:
The film totally relegates the criminal investigation to the side for the shenanigans at the school and Chow trying to keep his cover. Clues and such do trickle in but it comes together really quickly towards the end. Despite that, it doesn't hurt the movie at all.
There are no hard coded subs that I can see and it's all in Cantonese you'll have to use Tubi's native subtitles option to get the dialogue which isn't bad but hard coded subs are probably easier.
Anywho, check this out if you want a good laugh and if you're into this kind of cinema. There are 2 other sequels one of which ISN'T school related. I'll be checking them out as well.
