Atacama Desert for a Day

A friend and I are going on a jam-packed Argentina/Chile trip and plan on going to Atacama but, only for a day. We would most likely arrive at CJC airport at around 8-9 am and catch a flight the following day at around 9-10 am.

What would be some recommended itineraries for the ~24 hours we will be there? I think visiting 2 of the main attractions is enough for us and would want to explore San Pedro de Atacama for a couple hours as well. We will rent a car, if that makes sense.

Thank you in advance.

Booking Flights

Canadian here. I will be traveling to and around Uruguay, Argentina and Chile from September 29th to October 12th for a few weeks. I already booked my return flight from Santiago, Chile to Canada. I still need to book these flights:

  • From Canada to Montevideo, Uruguay
  • From Uruguay to Mendoza, Argentina
  • From Mendoza to Cordoba, Argentina
  • From Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, Argentina
  • From Punta Arenas, Chile to Santiago
  • Round-trip from Santiago to Easter Island

When would be the sweet spot for the cheapest flights and/or best routes? Do certain airlines bring out more routes or have sales in the summer months? I have listed all the flights in case the best times to look/book differ.

Thank you in advance.
