Hey everyone,
I’m a student, and I'm planning to work on a coding project to build a mobile app prototype.
The idea came from a massive daily annoyance: since almost everyone uses UPI now, shopkeepers rarely have physical cash change anymore. As teenagers, relying on cash makes it a huge hassle just to buy snacks or stationery after school or tuition.
While a couple of teen fintech apps exist, they are honestly super cluttered, full of distracting ads, and feel like digital malls. I want to build a minimalist, completely ad-free utility app that fixes this, but with features actually designed for a student’s daily routine.
Some features I'm mapping out for the prototype:
- Study/Exam Modes: Optional parental controls that restrict non-essential spending during tuition hours or board exams (so you don't accidentally spend your textbook money on fast food).
- Emergency Request Button: If you're stuck somewhere and hit your weekly limit, a one-tap button pings your parents for an instant limit override.
- No-AI Price Tracker & Goal Lock: Paste a link to a book, gadget, or novel you want to save up for. The app locks a portion of your budget toward it and automatically tracks online price drops to tell you when it’s cheapest.
Because of RBI regulations, this will be a fully functional simulation app (using test/sandbox money) for now, until I grow as an adult and can partner with banks and get permissions from RBI.
I created a quick, anonymous Google Form to see how you guys deal with pocket money, cash change issues, and what features you’d actually want in a clean wallet app.
