DOTW: What do you think is the biggest trap writers fall into when writing genders or identities outside of their own?

From what Ive seen, we always talk about "men writing women" debates, but what about the other way around? Do female authors tend to write idealized, flawless "Mary Sue" versions of men? or do male authors struggle with making female characters flat sounding boards? How do you make sure your characters feel like real people, regardless of gender?
