Texas new LLC questions on whether to collect sales tax and also finding a CPA
Hi! I've tried googling but i've gotten more questions than answers.
I want to say that I am working on looking for a CPA so I can better sort this out but in the mean time I was curious.
I am in Texas and I started a business. I run coed sports leagues held in a third party venue (I rent the courts there and have zero ownership with the place), so just pay to rent them but don't sell any goods otherwise. I just manage the leagues on my own, people pay me, i do schedules, they come play and that's pretty much it, just offer that service.
I did make a sales tax permit when i started because i figured it was what you're supposed to do. I started collecting sales tax on registrations But I am noticing that other businesses that run leagues do NOT collect sales tax so now im wondering if I'm even supposed to be collecting that? (revenue is under 100k if that matters)
I kind of want to sort this out earlier than later because im afraid of doing the wrong thing and then ending up in jail or owing huge amounts.
Also, how the heck do i find a good CPA? Is this something where you do trial and error? Is there something to look for or certain qualifications that i should consider? I hear horror stories and again, don't wanna end up owing huge amounts of moeny or end up in jail.
