I've been testing a few different platforms that pay developers to display small sponsored ads in their terminal while they work (Rebates, Dividend, etc). I made about $150 this month, which allowed me to pre order GTA 6.

The only problem is that I have a very spiky relationship with my manager which has led him to question those ads in my terminal a couple times when he was walking by.

I don't want to get in trouble at work, but I think SWEs should be able to use platforms like that and gain a bit extra money so I’m really thinking about keeping them on next month.

Should I actually do it or is it too much trouble ?

I've seen the 100%, 10% (like 90% less impact) number get thrown around a lot recently concerning EcoGPT and I just wanted to confirm because I don't want to trust anything these companies are saying.

Can anyone explain (or debunk) how they are doing it, and if it even is true in the first place? Also, is it 1/10 of the energy used? Of the water used? Of the electricity?

I need someone to answer me before I start using this thing full time.
