Is Movavi Screen Recorder safe to download and install?

Discussions about whether a program is safe or not are pretty normal, especially with screen recording software. It’s the kind of app that needs access to several things on your PC. I get why people stop for a second and ask that.

Is Movavi Screen Recorder safe? The short answer is yes

Movavi Screen Recorder is safe to download and install as long as you download it from the official Movavi website. That’s the part that matters most.

What you should avoid are random “free full version” pages, software mirror sites, torrents, or YouTube descriptions that promise an activated installer. Even if the program name looks the same, you don’t really know what was changed inside the installer or what else was added to it, including severe malware.

Downloading Movavi Screen Recorder for free doesn’t mean you’re getting the full paid version forever. You’re downloading the trial version. Install, test, try recording, and see if it works for what you need. If you want the full version without trial limits, that’s paid.

Here’s the safe way to install the program:

  • Go to Movavi’s website, open the Screen Recorder page, and click the download button for Windows or Mac.
  • Open the installer, follow the setup steps, and read each screen carefully before clicking Next.
  • Finish the installation, open the program. Allow accesses if asked.
  • Click the Video recording button to make a short test recording to check video and sound.

One thing that can also look suspicious but is okay: screen recorders ask for permissions. If the app is supposed to record your screen, it obviously needs screen recording access. If you want voiceover, it needs microphone access. That doesn’t automatically mean the app is unsafe.

On Mac, you may need to approve recording and microphone access in system settings. On Windows, you may see the usual security prompt before installing.

So, yeah, the main rule is simple: official download = fine, random cracked installer = don’t risk it.

I have Movavi app on my phone and I don't understand how anyone edits videos on a tiny screen

I installed Movavi app on my phone a while ago because I thought, hey, maybe I'll edit something on the go, like a quick clip for Instagram or whatever. I even tried it once and made a 10-second cut, but then closed the app and never opened it again.

I still have it on my phone (for some reason can’t delete it in case I need it again one day), but I really don’t get how people edit videos on a phone, seriously.

You know that millennial meme where people say they can't make large purchases on their phone and need to use a computer? That's literally me, both in life (yeah yeah, I also open my laptop to get smth like flight tickets or even a new phone) and video editing. I just need a big screen, a mouse, and preferably 5 open chrome tabs with effects inspiration on Pinterest or smth. The thought of dragging clips with my thumb on a 6-inch display makes me feel physically uncomfortable.

So I'm genuinely curious, does anyone here actually edit videos on their phone regularly? Like, not just trimming the start and end, but real editing with transitions, effects, text, and so on?

And if you do, how's the Movavi app for that? Have you tried/used it or do you use smth more mainstream like CapCut? I’d be genuinely thankful for some tips and advice because I feel like mobile editing can be fast and less complicated than doing it on desktop. But I just can’t force myself to start and need some support, I guess.

Here’s how to use the Movavi video compressor

https://preview.redd.it/zrs34dm1vh4h1.png?width=2048&format=png&auto=webp&s=d1fae52acfb311e958f41f737768b427bb2d5a98

I know you might wanna ask “wait, is there a Movavi Video Compressor?”, and the answer is no, it’s not exactly a piece of software they have. However, there’s a video compressor in their Movavi Video Converter, so if you’re looking for a way to compress video (and image/audio by the way) files, you’ll need this program.

Here’s a small tutorial on how to compress a file in Movavi:

  • Launch Movavi Video Converter and add your file(s)
  • You’ll see the Compress file option on each file; click on it
  • The program will open a small window where you can adjust the file size and bitrate. There are two ways of compressing your file: either drag the file size slider until you get the size you need, or lower the bitrate (you’ll see that the file size also gets smaller when you do that)
  • Click Apply, then click Convert, and it’s done.

That’s basically the entire process, but there are still some things I’d like to add (it’s just some personal recommendations, so treat them as such):

  1. In the “compress file” window, there’s also a “quality” setting. I try to make sure that it at least stays on “good” because otherwise the quality gets significantly worse. If you don’t care about the quality and just want a smaller file to send it via a messaging app, ignore this.
  2. Use the Convert sample button before compressing the entire video (especially if it’s a long one) to see whether the quality is still satisfying. If you feel like it’s not, go back and increase the bitrate.
  3. As for bitrate, I suggest not going lower than 10-12 MBps for 1080p and 5-6 MBps for 720p. I’d say it’s 35 MBps for 4K videos, but to be honest, if you want to compress a file, I think it’s better to turn 4K into 1080p because it’ll make the file significantly smaller.
  4. And as for the format, I suggest using MP4 with H.264 or H.265. The first one is the most universal, so you’ll most likely have no issues with it, while the second one can give you a smaller file size. The only thing is, Movavi doesn’t natively support H.265, but this post from their official team member says you can get a codec extension.

That’s everything I wanted to cover today, if you’ve got more ideas, tips, or questions, let me know.

I wish Movavi Video Editor had masking

I know that there are various options for the picture-in-picture effect in Movavi Video Editor and even highlight and conceal effects that allow you to create ellipse or rectangle masks, but what I mean is an actual pen tool that will allow you to draw the mask yourself.

I mostly need this when I want to mask out a person and change the background, so the AI background removal tool saves me in such cases, but AI will always be AI, and I’m sometimes unsatisfied with the result. This is where I just wish we had pen tool masking in Movavi Video Editor.

I can also think of so many effects and even text animations that will be possible if Movavi introduced this manual masking, and it kills me that we can't do that. I know it’s sorta professional territory, and Movavi Video Editor has never been promoted as professional editing software, but still, I just can’t help it.

So I guess I wanted to ask whether anyone else feels the same way and would like to have advanced masking in Movavi. Perhaps if there are a lot of us, they’ll listen to us and at least consider adding the feature.
