>According to the additional nominations for the “2026 MTV VMA” announced on the 18th (local time), CORTIS was named as a nominee for “Best Group,” alongside BTS, KATSEYE, British girl group FLO, and others, with a total of eight acts competing in the category.

>The category has previously been won by leading global K-pop artists such as BTS, BLACKPINK, and SEVENTEEN. Thus, CORTIS’ nomination alongside such prominent senior groups just one year after their debut carries particular significance. >I tend to keep my senses as open as possible and try to experience as much as I can. I’ve realized that inspiration doesn't just strike during extraordinary moments in life. You can find something new in things you usually overlook just by shifting your perspective slightly. The sources of my inspiration are incredibly diverse. On the rare occasions when I hit a slump or a creative block, I look for a breakthrough in movies or animation.

>Fundamentally, I believe that in any field, once you surpass a certain level, it becomes a form of art.

After all, the memories we build while pursuing our goals—and the passion we pour into striving for perfection—become the stories we share for a long time.

When talking about the Los Angeles songwriting camp, for example, you mentioned that ‘the members’ tongues were purple all day because we ate so many açai bowls.’ It feels like you remember moments as images. >I’m reminded of a day recently when I went to a jjimjilbang (Korean sauna) by myself. It was an incredibly quiet space. It was so quiet that I could hear my own heartbeat. Just lying there, perfectly still, felt truly peaceful.

>Q. “You seem humorous and unafraid of making a fool of yourself. Maybe it’s because you’re handsome! Where does that uninhibited wit come from?”

>Hmm… I’m not handsome, though. You might have picked up on a unique vibe. Rather than having a particular source of humor, I think people simply saw my honest self as witty. Thank you for looking upon me favorably.

>Q. “That’s a contrast to your usual demeanor though; you were absolutely incredible at Lollapalooza Chicago. Your whole presence—even the look in your eyes—shifted. How did it feel? And just so you know, feel free to answer in English if you prefer.”

>Whenever I step onto a stage, there’s always a quote that comes to mind. “Don’t step into the room like you want the role, step into the room like you own it”. I always try to approach performances with that mindset.
Performing at Lollapalooza Chicago, which had been a dream stage for me since I was young, was truly an honor and something I’m incredibly grateful for.
Because of that, I steeled myself with the mindset that I was going to conquer that stage.

>Q. “CORTIS’s music takes every generation back to back to a specific era of their own lives. For me, it takes me back to my middle school days. It’s not just about the rock sound of 'What You Want' or the electronic vibes of 'REDRED,' but it’s the raw sense of freedom unique to that period that makes me feel like I’m reconnecting with my past self. Is there an era you, James, would like to reach through your music as well?”

>If there’s an era I want to express or connect with, it’s 'right now'. There are things you can only say in this moment, and feelings that can only be expressed now.
Even when we make CORTIS’s music, choreography, and videos together as members, we’re always thinking about “how we can express who we are right now in the most honest way possible.”

>You can imagine the past or the future in your head, but the present is right in front of you. When it comes to expressing something through art, there’s nothing more beautiful than the present.
