Hello,

My little brother is 19 years old and is on a student visa.

He got into a fight few months back and received a diversion recommendation from the police and court date in October.

I recently got my citizenship so i’m not too familiar with this court/legal system in Australia. Really sad this has happened to him..

I have few questions and any advice would be greatly appreciated:

1. Can he also get a free legal assistance from Victoria legal aid?

2. I heard there is a duty lawyer at the court, how can he get one for his court date?

3. Can he do anything prior to the court date or everything will be decided on the day at the court whether they proceed with the diversion & plan or reject it?
