Is a futon comfortable enough to sleep on for a summer?

I am subleasing an apartment for the summer in my college town because I need to stay for an internship. The issue with this is I do not have any furniture here since I am an RA and live in the dorms where they provide everything. I am trying to figure out if purchasing a futon to function as a bed for the summer and a couch during the school year would be the most reasonable option. My friends are pretty adamant that I will be super uncomfortable sleeping on a futon for 3 months, but it seems like the best solution to my problem. Do you guys have any suggestions on alternatives or futons that are actually pretty comfortable that I could purchase for a reasonable price? I was also considering borrowing a mattress from the dorm I live/work at and returning it when the school year starts, but the mattresses aren't exactly of the highest quality and it is definitely against the rules...
