Dependent having their own plan
Hello everyone! I have a question, please forgive me if I’m misunderstanding anything. I’m a recent college graduate and am only now starting to navigate the insurance world without my parents.
To make a long story short, I’m transgender and use my parents insurance for my care (HRT + recent top surgery). I’m also getting phalloplasty in the near future, but my parents have told me I’m not allowed to use their insurance for that procedure because they do not support me getting that surgery.
Am I, as their child and dependent, able to/allowed to get my own insurance plan if I’m able to afford it? Can I still be on their insurance for regular PCP visits and whatnot but use my insurance for this surgery? Or would I have to only have one?
Pardon me if I’m misunderstanding anything but this may be my only way to get this surgery. I have my heart set on this specific surgeon (I’ve already had my top surgery through him so I know he’s great).
