I currently work in Orange County, CA in a lab making 135,000. I have been there for 9 years and receive about 3-5% increase yearly. Good benefits but a toxic workplace. I started a masters program to prepare myself for a new job hopefully making a little more and doing more meaningful work. But, I recently got a job offer in San Francisco for an entry level position making 103,000. It’s a government job so growth would be moderately slow but essentially guaranteed. I would need to probably drop my masters program to balance a new job and life. The job seems a great opportunity but a rough starting pay that would take roughly 4 years to get to my current pay.
