Old sunroom built on a deck: is it worth upgrading for $170K? House value $600k.

We have a 30+ year old sunroom we'd like to turn into an office. Needs heating and cooling as summers are hot and winters are cold. Sunroom is aluminum with single pane windows so insulation value is near zero. It's built on a deck (wood beams, no foundation) and roof is nearly flat so this is definitely not up to modern code for snow load.

Option 1: demo and build new. Quotes have ranged from $80k to $170k for a 12' x 17' footprint (same as existing). Likely wouldn't be completed until end of year. Would need permits. Some designs would add this to the total house SF.

Option 2: Supplement aluminum walls with 2x4 framing, replace doors and add double pane windows. Quotes are pending but tentative estimate is ~$15k-20k. Likely able to complete in a couple weeks using off the shelf windows.

Perhaps 5 yrs left in this house. What do you choose?

Narrow/low profile AC options

Looking to add a 115v AC to my Sprinter. I only have 26" between solar panels so ideally the AC is narrower than that. So far the only AC I found that meets this criteria is the RecPro 9.5k.

Is there anything else I might be missing? Can't do 12v as my battery can't supply enough output current.

Van flooring: cover up attachment points or leave accessible

Will be putting down foam + plywood + vinyl soon in the sprinter. It came with 6 D rings and 4 hold downs (for securing factory floor). All M8 bolts IIRC.

Should I leave any or all of these inserts accessible? To do so I would drill an oversized hole through the flooring than epoxy in a metal or PVC pipe to act as a bolt guide. This creates additional work for something I'm not sure I'll use (but I do want to maintain a modular design).

Van came fully paneled and insulated but the panels go all the way to the floor.

Floor will be raised about 1.5“ after insulation and subfloor. My options are

  1. trim the bottom of the panels. Which will likely fray the upholstery.

  2. leave a ~1/2” gap for the panels to slot into. This will create channel for dirt and liquids to collect.

Bought this van used last summer. Sprinter cargo that had a 2nd row seat added. Pulling up the rear L track gave me concerns about the build quality (sheared bolts, missing rivnuts)

L track + seat itself seems adequate but I'm not sure about the actual mounting. 5/16" stainless screws (through bolted with lock nuts), 4" OC, I believe there's 8 per track.

Is this kosher?

This a company that installs van windows in your driveway. Price is barely more than paying for the window + shipping which is what piqued my interest.

Anyone use them? Reviews are pretty sparse.

I have 400w of solar connected to a Goal Zero. I'd like to maintain/trickle charge the battery in my Sprinter.

Can I just connect a 12v output to the starter battery or do I need a dedicated DC-DC charger?
