I Became Part of a Grocery Store Family Feud
Today I accidentally became part of a stranger’s family argument at the grocery store.
I was standing in the cereal aisle trying to decide if buying the “family size” box was optimistic or just admitting defeat, when this older woman nearby held up two pasta sauces and asked me, completely seriously, “Which one says ‘I forgive you but I’ll never forget’?”
I thought she was joking, but apparently she was going to dinner at her sister’s house after a massive fight and was trying to choose the “correct emotional sauce.” Before I could answer, her husband appeared out of nowhere and said, “Get the spicy one. Send a message.”
For some reason this turned into a full discussion involving me, a random college kid stocking shelves, and another woman who just wanted breadcrumbs. Everyone had opinions about reconciliation pasta.
Eventually the original woman grabbed both jars and announced, “One for peace, one for emotional honesty.”
Honestly one of the weirdest but funniest interactions I’ve had in public in a while. Grocery stores after 6 PM are basically community theatre.
