Accidentally filed jointly, student loan payments are now 10k
My husband and I accidentally filed taxes jointly this year. This is a $10,000 difference in my student loan payments. I’ve spoken to 5 different people at the IRS today. Each has tried transferring me to account management, and then the call drops after 40 minutes to an hour. They’ve each told me I can’t fill out 1040-X because it’s after April 15, but online it says you can fill out 1040-X for the past two years or current tax year.
Does anyone have any advice? Thank you in advance.
