I’ve been trying to figure out how international students find rooms in big cities like Toronto, and it honestly looks quite overwhelming from the outside. From what I’ve seen, most people usually start with Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji. And I get that there are lots of listings there, but it feels like you always have to sort through a lot of uncertainty, and there are also some scam stories already in there.
I’m just wondering whether people are using anything better or more structured these days. I have seen these new homesharing platforms that actually verify both tenants and landlords, handle the agreements, and give you some form of support if things go wrong.
Would love to hear from anyone who’s gone through this recently. Did you find anything there that felt safer or more reliable than just endlessly scrolling listings on FB?
