Single mom wanting to travel to one of these countries in December for 3-4 weeks. By then, my kids will be 4 and 1.5 years old. We're from Europe and have been to Sri Lanka and Oman together, (and several road trips within Europe) and I have done some other big trips before I had kids. I feel very comfortable traveling with them.

Before my eldest goes to school and my youngest turns two (aka paying an extra flight ticket and only traveling in peak season) I want to do one last big trip to get it out of my system. Then we'll switch to vacations closer to home for a few years since I'll have to save up for big trips from that moment.

Anyway, just to give some context.

I'm considering Ghana (been to several African countries but not with the kids yet) and Guatemala (closest I've been was Dominican Republic). I speak English fluently and some decent Spanish.

What I'm looking for is cultural emersion, cool nature, relative safety, and short distances. I self-drove Oman in a rental but in Sri Lanka we only did public transport and either was fine. But I wouldn't enjoy my vacation driving in very chaotic traffic or struggling to get anywhere with public transport, so at least one of the options should be easy.

Anyone been to either of these countries with/without kids (or to both?) and care to share their experience and tips?

Thanks!
