Apartment hunting across the country
Hello, I am looking into a move somewhere across the country (location still unknown but in the US) for the first time and would like advice from anyone who’s ever done something similar.
How should I go about the apartment search?
Photos, virtual tours, and reviews only tell you so much. I’m so scared to commit to a place that I’ve never physically been to, smelled, heard the level of noise, and looked for bugs in.
My strategy right now is to pay a little more than I’d truly like to for the first year just to guarantee a decent place and then once I’m there, shop around for a cheaper place for when my lease is up. Is this a solid plan? I feel out of my depth and would just like some advice! :)
