I’ve seen a lot of first-time travelers struggle in India, so here are some things most travel blogs don’t tell you:
- Always negotiate prices Auto-rickshaws, markets, even some hotels — if you don’t bargain, you’re overpaying.
- Carry toilet paper or wipes Public restrooms often don’t have it. Small thing, big difference.
- Use trains for long distances Sleeper trains are cheap and actually a great experience. Flights are faster but you miss the real India.
- Don’t trust “helpful strangers” at stations Some will redirect you to fake offices or overpriced services.
- Dress simple in smaller towns Helps avoid unwanted attention and makes travel smoother.
- Google Maps isn’t always accurate Especially in rural areas. Ask locals when needed.
- India is overwhelming at first — that’s normal Give it 3–4 days. After that, it starts making sense. If anyone’s planning a trip and has questions, happy to help 👍
