Kashmiri Pandit Yagnopavit
Why is it that many elders and some community members complain that the Yagnopavit or Mekhal ceremony has become a mere social event? I am wondering if it is because nowadays people invite huge amounts of people, hire djs, banquet halls, and spend a lot of money. How were Mekhals done in olden times in Kashmiri Pandit households like way before migration? And with how many guests and was Maenz Raat always a pre mekhal event just like weddings? I always thought Mekhal was a religious and socio-cultural gathering and it is very important in our culture which is why we invite relatives and we celebrate.
