Question about stomach issues

Twice in the last twelve months I've developed colitis and needed antibiotics to treat it. It also involved a trip to the emergency room each time, which was oh so much fun. I had a colonoscopy in December and my colon looked "beautiful" according to my gastro doc. So I have an appointment next Friday with my gastro doc to figure out what is going on because I'm feeling miserable.

I'm wondering if other folks have experienced this and what you did to address it? I'm not looking for a diagnosis, I'm just wondering what other people experienced so that I have some more info in the back of my mind when I'm talking to my doctor.

The colitis starts with gut wrenching stomach pain, which then leads to non-watery diarrhea and some vomiting. The stomach pain feels like my colon is being twisted and stabbed. My dietitian suggested that this might be the result of dysautonomia. I have IBS and generally am good at following a diet that doesn't agitate things, but sometimes there's no telling what will set me off or why it was set off. Too much stress? Too much of foods that might be agitating and are only okay sometimes? Random chance? Hell of having autoimmune issues?
