Solarballs Character Analysis: Theia
Hi, guys! Today I'm going to analyze probably one of the most misunderstood characters in the Solarballs fandom. I've seen a lot of people not understanding her character, so maybe I could change your opinion on her. This analysis is going to be the most unique one, because she's shown in one major arc compared to other characters I've already analyzed. Well, here is the first hypothetical planet analysis - Theia!
Theia's introduction. Theia forms with the other 2nd generation of rocky planets. She already stands out from other planets and starts talking about herself when Sun asks only their names. She's shown to be confrontational with others and refuses to accept criticism, but just like Earth, this is all her outer personality.
Theia's motivation. Something has been bothering Theia from the first day of her existence, and later we found out it was life. I know wanting to create life without proper reason sounds weird. Especially when her only reason is she just **feels** it should exist, so the universe is not going to be so lonely. But in the end, she believed in life so hard, she gave her own life to it. Her motivation might seem unrealistic, and it is unrealistic, but the whole Theia's arc is her wanting to create life while breaking every rule of the universe. She calls herself crazy for even thinking that way. Theia's motivation is intended to be unrealistic, and I can accept that. After all, we're talking about a hypothetical planet that crashed onto Earth.
Theia's hypothesis. Before Theia's arc, a lot of people wanted her arc to be tragic and cruel instead of wholesome and happy. By hypothesis, Theia and Earth's crash was influenced by Venus and Jupiter's gravity. I'm so glad they didn't choose that version, because Jupiter already had his own arc where he destroyed other planets, and he wanted to redeem himself by keeping the asteroid belt in check. Venus's character never had built up towards intentionally killing someone. If Venus and Jupiter intentionally killed Theia, then it would genuinely ruin both of their characters. Honestly, I think some people are more upset on their own headcanon version of Theia's arc not existing in the show.
Theia's personality. Theia is a idealist, despite being very smart and calculative, she's bad at understanding others emotions. She's very stubborn when it comes to her ambition in achieving life and won't easily forgive the ones who hurt her, but she still tries to be polite and kind with the ones who can speak to her normally. Also, she felt lonely because she thought no one cared about her and believed in her dream. People say that she's annoying, but Theia thinks the same about herself, she can understand when she's wrong, even if it takes a long time for her to realize it. After all, Theia’s main weakness is her emotional obsession with her own goal. Once she thinks her idea right, she finds it difficult to back down.
Theia's relationship with other rocky planets.
With Mercury they had only 2 conversations, but honestly, the first one was genuine fire. Both stand out among other rocky planets for their profound scientific knowledge or just understanding of how the universe works, and both can help each other with their weak points. Such as Theia's having a bad emotional intelligence and Mercury's being alone. I can easily imagine both of them becoming close friends if Theia's death never happened.
With Mars, well, yeah, these two have nothing in common. Both of them never had a proper conversation. If Theia's death never happened, I can imagine them being neutral-good to each other, but it's not like they could've been friends.
Venus and Proto. The most interesting one!
Three of them had a weird love triangle. Venus had one-sided love for Theia, while Theia saw him as a friend and loved Proto. People say that Theia treated Venus badly as a friend, and it's true, she did, but she realised it and actually apologized for it. She treated Proto even more badly, but I think people are forgetting that she was fixated on creating life. Why did she loved Proto more than Venus tho? The easiest explanation is because they share a common motivation. Both of them begin to reflect on life and its meaning. Proto just had a long time to realise it. That is why Theia views Proto not merely as someone she likes, he becomes a person (planet) with whom she can share her worldview. That is why her feelings for him are so strong. Venus didn't understand Theia as much as Proto despite loving her.
Overall thoughts: Her central conflict is the chaos of the universe and her belief that existence can be imbued with meaning. She is emotional, idealistic, curious, deeply attached to others and incredibly determined. At the same time, her sensitivity leaves her vulnerable, and her idealism sometimes drives her to make decisions that put her in danger. That is why her death, within the context of the series, is not just a tragedy but the beginning of a life existence.
For me, personally, she's not a mixed bag or some crazy girl. She's the best written female character in the show so far.
What do you all think about my analysis?
