Baby groomer struggling with legs, armpits, & underneath
I’m a junior groomer and I’m really struggling with clipping certain areas, especially when using extension combs.
I can clip the body, sides, and neck and get a really nice smooth finish, but then I get to the legs and everything falls apart 😣
The main things I struggle with are:
• Getting an even clip down the legs, they always end up looking bumpy or uneven and then I spend ages trying to fix it scissoring for a mediocre finish
• Dogs not liking me holding or extending the leg while clipping, so I’m trying to clip as much as possible while their foot stays on the table and I feel like this is adding more time and steps to my groom
• Armpits/elbows/chest/belly areas. Once I step back after clipping there always seems to be random bits of hair poking out near the elbows/armpits that I just cannot seem to get with the clipper
• Underneath smaller dogs like Shih Tzus, I really struggle getting the clipper underneath them properly, plus their legs are so short and oddly angled, it’s makes it hard
I feel like I spend forever going back over the same areas trying to fix them and it’s making my grooms take so much longer. The body will look nice and then the legs just don’t match the finish.
I’d really appreciate any advice because this is something I’m getting quite stuck on at the moment and I need to get up to standard in these areas so I can build confidence with faces.
