Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share my results so far. I had 10mm herniation at L4L5, see image 1.

I got the MD surgery on Feb 16, and just got a second MRI on May 9. Good news is that the surgery successfully removed the herniation without any fragments left behind (see image 2) - its totally gone!

However, I have been in pain for over a month, first SI joint pain and now its extreme low back muscular pain with muscle spasms, as well as back locking up when crying, laughing and sneezing difficulty walking. The doctor said it is just a result of the inflammation that still remains, which he said was all the white stuff in the 3rd image. He is confident it will heal over time and to take anti-inflammatories in the meantime.

I feel relieved that there is nothing wrong, and am just trying to keep the faith and let my body heal. Thankfully I have 2 more months of disability so I am just taking it easy and going to continue to rest and hope it heals up.

I had my surgery on Feb 16 and have been in a bad relapse since April 1. I am really the most comfortable sitting reclined on my couch, so I have been spending a lot of my time making friendship bracelets for my friends and family. This is a new hobby that I would not have developed if I did not this much physical restriction and time off work. I am enjoying the process, find it meditative and feel happy when I complete one. What other ways are you all passing the time and helping in your healing?

If you have 15 minutes this is a video update of where I am in my surgery recovery, wanted to find support groups or people to connect with who are continuing to have chronic pain.

Hi all,

I am a 34yo female and had the microdiscectomy surgery on feb 16. L4 L5 left side I had no pain and was back to work doing all activities after a month, then around april 1, i was in debilitating pain and could scarcely walk for a couple weeks. It felt like a pinch on my SI joint, and extreme muscle guarding and spasms. It felt like when I walk like my whole left side was so unstable that I would collapse and that my back could not hold me up. I was prescribed celebrex 2x a day which I have been taking for a couple of weeks now. However every night is painful. The process of turning in bed to either side is so painful. Getting up from a chair is very painful, and I am walking so slow so tentatively because of the pain. I am worried because i did not have this pain before the surgery, its a new pain. The pain specialist said it could be now my SI joint, and suggested a local steroid shot in that joint. I am waiting approval of the shot. He mentioned this is a rare outcome from the surgery and the only way to truly fix this if it is the case is another surgery, a fusion of the SI joint. To top it off, I am bipolar and steroid shot is risky to cause a manic episode so the pain specialist is having to clear it with my psychiatrist.

As of now I am on disability for 2 more months. I can not carry groceries, do laundry, or anything like that my family is having to help me. Has anyone experienced this? I am worried because it seems like my recovery has plataeued. I can barely manage this pain it has been a whole month of constant pain, with minimal relief from the celebrex.

Thank you
