Hi everyone,
I’m an incoming student at Unimelb majoring in Computing and Software Systems.

I’m trying to decide between getting a MacBook Air (M5 chip) or a MacBook Pro. If I go with the Air, is the base 8-core GPU enough for our coursework, or is it worth upgrading to the 10-core GPU?

Also, I'd love some tips on memory (RAM) specs for this major—would 16GB be sufficient for all the compiling and coding projects, or should I consider looking into 24GB or higher? Or should I just skip the Air entirely and go for a Pro?

I’d love to hear some advice from current students or alumni. Thanks!
