Is it worth working for usps if I have a newborn and wife?

Is it worth working for usps starting as cca in Philadelphia if I have a month old baby and a wife? I want a job I can work it to build toward a pension. I don’t have a college degree I’m currently working as a chef 2nd shift. The older I get I don’t see myself in the kitchen industry. I know for the first couple years I’ll be working Saturday and sundays but will be able to get the weekends off if I was to work for usps and become career? How is usps when requesting time off once I do have time in?
