What are some of your country’s cultural treasures (historical buildings, artifacts, etc.)… that don’t fit your country’s conventional image?
- This is a real ancient Greek bronze helmet, Korea’s National Treasure No. 904.
Assumed to have been made in the 8th century BC, the helmet was given as a prize to marathoner Son Ki-jeong (1912-2002) for his marathon gold medal in the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
- This is the Gyeongju Gyerimro Sword, Korea’s National Treasure No. 635.
It is assumed to have been made in Europe or the Middle East during the 5-6 century, and was brought to Silla through international trade.
- This is the Deoksugung Seokjojeon Palace, built from 1900 to 1910.
This is the first Western-style building within a Korean palace. Ironically when it was finished Korea had already been annexed by Japan.
