Genealogy scammer is still a moderator on the other sub
A few months ago, I made this post to expose a genealogy scam targeting this subreddit and others.
Since that post, the scam appears to have shut down. (At least, I can no longer find it being operated.) While it is still important to be wary of "genealogists" who make grand promises, this is a positive development.
However, as I mentioned in my previous post, the scammer became a moderator on multiple subreddits, including the other sub related to Lebanon. Without going into too much detail (to respect Reddit's rules on harassment and brigading), an account I firmly believe belongs to the scammer remains a moderator there. There is evidence that this individual is a scammer, doxxer, and libeler who promotes businesses with clear conflicts of interest and uses sockpuppet accounts to evade bans.
Attempting to contact the other moderators has been a frustrating experience. I have DM'd mods who aren't the scammer, but the top-level mods either ignore me before I can provide evidence, or stop responding after I send it. The few mods who do respond eventually stop replying, and they don't have the permissions required to remove another moderator. One mod even blocked me after I provided extensive evidence.
I primarily used DMs so the scammer wouldn't see. However, during a few days when the scammer received a temporary site-wide ban, I reached out via mod mail and reposted my public summary. Neither received a response from mods, and the mod mail was archived without action. Even some of the most obvious of the scammer's sockpuppet accounts remain unbanned.
Again, please keep Reddit's rules regarding brigading, harassment, and doxxing in mind. Please take this simply as a complaint regarding the moderation of that sub and a suggestion to be cautious.
