US/Vietnam passport name mismatch? (first + middle name switched)
Any Vietnamese dual citizens here successfully fix their US/Vietnam passport name mismatch? (first + middle name switched)
So I was born in Vietnam and my Vietnamese name is:
Pham A -> B
But on my US passport it became:
Pham B -> A
Basically my first and middle name got switched around during the immigration/naturalization process years ago.
At first it was mostly annoying for airline tickets and LotusMiles/SkyTeam stuff, but now I’m more concerned long-term with:
- legal documents
- banking
- taxes
- flights
- identity consistency
I’m leaning toward correcting the US side because I want to keep my original Vietnamese name order, but I honestly don’t know which country/process is easier.
So I wanted to ask:
- Has anyone here gone through the same thing?
- Did you fix the US passport or Vietnamese passport side?
- How difficult was the process?
- Did you need a court order in the US?
- Were you able to use both name variations under one identity/account before fixing it?
- Any issues with Vietnam Airlines, immigration, banks, or government paperwork?
Would really appreciate hearing from other Vietnamese-Americans / dual citizens who dealt with this 🙏
