Teaching Chinese vs Korean students

Moving from Korea to China and curious about the cultural differences between students and their overall discipline. One of the things that shocked me during my time in Korea was how outspoken the kids were regarding other people’s physical appearance as well as the general acceptance of discrimination Some examples of that would be teasing other students who came back darker after their summer vacation or yelling “ugly” whenever they saw a picture of a black person or even commenting on the length of my coworker’s arm hair and his weight. I also don’t know if they felt like they could do or say whatever and there wouldn’t be any consequences because I worked at a hakwon vs a traditional school. There were even a few boys who were caught masturbating in class yet they were just let off with a warning. I’m trying to mentally prepare myself ahead of time. For those that have worked in both countries, how did they compare with regards to students’ overall attitude towards academics and general behavior of students infront of teachers.

Interest on investments for expats

Hi guys💕 curious to know what my rate of taxation will be if I cross the R23 800 threshold on interest earned in a brokerage account. For some background, I work abroad but am still a tax resident in SA. I’m tax exempt though because of a dual taxation agreement. I’ve been hoarding money for the past 9 years because the world of investing seemed so daunting but when I recently came back to SA for a short break, the price of groceries amper gave me a heart attack so I decided to open an Easy Equities account. Was wondering since I don’t pay tax here how much I would be taxed on interest earned over the R23 800 amount? Will it be according to my foreign earned income because unfortunately that puts me in a very high tax bracket. I already maxed out my TFSA and was planning on investing in the ZAR and USD account (as I have quite a bit of money to play with and it’s just gathering dust in my savings account) and using the interest earned to try to max out my TFSA at the start of every financial year using most of the interest earned from the ZAR and USD accounts. Is this feasible or is there anything I should be aware of with this strategy plus possible tax implications.

Late severance.

I work for an infamous four-letter franchise. My contract ended on May 29th. They opened IRP’s on our behalf and usually pay into it on the tenth of every month. According to my understanding of the law, they’re supposed to pay everything they owe you 14 days after your contract ends, however I didn’t receive my severance today, June 10th but did receive my last paycheck. Called them and was told that since they’re depositing the last IRP payment today, I will only get my severance in about 15 days. Should I be worried? Leaving Korea on the 26th and if what they’re saying is true, I will only get my severance on the 25th, leaving me with basically no time to make a labor complaint.

Moving back to South Africa after 9 years abroad teaching English. Have a B.Ed but not really interested in teaching at a South African school. What are the best online platforms that provide a consistent income and accept South Africans. Would love to know your average monthly teaching hours as well as how much you make in an average month.
