Hi all! I’ve posted a few times on here and today I finally had my gum graft at 8:30am! I was shaking in my boots for the surgery and opted for laughing gas.. the doctor had to turn the gas up three times and that barely helped… or maybe it did? Not sure. I’ve never had laughing gas before 😅 anyway, we started around 9am and it took about 1.5-2 hours for one tooth which I heard from other people their surgery time was a lot shorter? He had to numb me again, twice I think. Wondering if maybe I just metabolized the anesthesia too quick? Or if maybe my recession was really bad? About 9mm on tooth #24. I have a picture up on my profile actually.
I’m home now and it’s about 8pm, I’ve been cycling ibuprofen and Tylenol and that’s kept me 99% pain free so far. Also took the amoxicillin as prescribed.
They gave me a gel to apply to both sites, but no mouthwash or anything and told me not to brush my teeth for two weeks. He did say I could brush the teeth further away from both sites but recommends I don’t. Is that normal?
Food wise: I’m told to go on a liquid diet for 10 days….. I’m a huge foodie and love food so much so this is the worst 😭 so far I’ve had a strawberry protein shake, a squeezable applesauce and a yakult probiotic yogurt drink….. am I supposed to survive like this for 10 days?!! What did you guys eat?
I didn’t get a stent or anything, the doctor said the harvest site was small enough and I think there is a liquid bandage there so I’m not too worried about that.
However, I am worried about not wearing my retainer…. What did you guys do retainer wise? I just finished Invisalign in February and have been wearing my retainers about 18 hours a day still, I’m worried my bottom front teeth where I had the most movement will shift back in these days… he said to bring my retainer to my post op appt and that I would maybe be able to begin wearing them then..
Thanks so much in advance for any answers!
