So I have a wild situation. I have endometriosis and had my second excision surgery last January (2025). After being on depo provera for ~6 years before this, I finally decided to switch (due to bone density concerns) and chose to have an IUD inserted while I was under anesthesia for the excision.

After the excision surgery, I was having pretty significant and sharp pain in the recovery. Due to this, my doctor decided to do a follow-up ultrasound where the IUD was visualized in the correct place and position within my uterus (Feb. 2025). She said the pain was likely just nerve regeneration from where the excision happened.

Fast forward.... I have been have more and more symptoms with ovulation, increasingly severe but very similar to my lifelong endo pain. Made a follow up appointment, and she schedules an ultrasound just as a general check up.

Everything looks OK in the ultrasound, but they can't find my IUD... Manual exam with speculum, and they still cannot find my IUD. At this point, the doctor said that I likely expelled it vaginally and that they would just do an X-Ray to confirm that it was not still there. WELL. IT WAS STILL THERE. In my pelvis! Outside of my uterus!

So in two weeks, I am having laparoscopic removal of the IUD, which at some point, perforated my uterus without me knowing and is floating in my pelvis. Surgeon said it is not urgent as I am not having any sharp pain or bleeding.

WOMENS BODIES ARE CRAZY. How does this even happen?!?! And is my pain tolerance that high from years of endo that a perforated uterus goes unnoticed?! Advice and words of encouragement welcome... <3
