Best CRM for freelancers in 2026? Here’s what I’ve actually liked and hated so far

I’m sure there are a ton of newer CRMs out there now, but these are the main ones I’ve personally spent time using.

Most CRMs either feel way too corporate or way too barebones for solo freelancers.

Here’s my honest breakdown:

1. HubSpot
Good:
- Super polished
- Great email tracking
- Tons of integrations
- Feels powerful

Bad:
- Absolute overkill for most freelancers
- Feels like software for sales teams, not solo people
- You start getting hit with upsells fast

2. HoneyBook
Good:
- Beautiful UI
- Good proposals/invoices
- Client experience feels premium

Bad:
- Expensive for newer freelancers
- Sometimes feels more like a booking platform than a CRM
- Automation can get confusing

3. Tympi
Good:
- Way simpler than most CRMs
- Built around freelancers instead of teams
- Tracks work + clients + invoices together
- Forces follow up dates so leads don’t disappear
- Email reminders actually keep me on track

Bad:
- Probably too lightweight for bigger agencies
- Still newer compared to bigger names

It honestly feels more like “anti procrastination software for freelancers” than a traditional CRM.

4. Notion
Good:
- Flexible
- Can build literally anything
- Nice if you love customizing workflows

Bad:
- You have to build EVERYTHING yourself
- Easy to turn into a messy second job
- No real follow up accountability unless you create it

Great for organized people. Terrible for procrastinators.

Overall, if you’re a solo freelancer, I honestly think the best CRM is the one that removes admin instead of adding more of it.

Most freelancers don’t need enterprise pipelines and 40 dashboards.

They need something that helps them follow up, track work, and get paid consistently without turning organization into another full time job.

I keep seeing people say they get completely confused trying to manage tasks across multiple projects… and yeah, same.

I tried Notion and it just turned into a mess once things piled up.

Lately I’ve been trying Tympi and it feels a bit simpler so far. You can set deadlines on individual tasks and it sends a morning email with what’s coming up, which helps.

Still figuring out what works long term though. Curious what everyone else is using that actually stays manageable?
