Feel like a dinosaur in point fight

I’m 54, started doing Kenpo about two years ago (Sunfuki, a Nick Cerio lineage style), purple belt. I’m coming back from about 15-20 years sedentary lifestyle, so not very springy, to say the least. Trained at a dojo that alternates between Kenpo, Brazilian jiujitsu and Goju-ryu. Great repertoire, not a lot of specialization. Dojo just closed by new owner for family reasons.

I know I have a lot to learn, but whenever I train point fighting, especially against teenagers, I feel soooo old! 👴😆 I move like molasses compared to them.

And while my old dojo’s adult class age average was around 50, this new dojo is filled with teenagers, so few real sparring partners. Plus, at a weight of 190lbs to their scrawny 95-100, I have to really hold back, while they go all in!

Anyone else can relate? 😉

[Request] Can anyone help me with grading?

Hello hive mind! I’m a teacher in high school, working with kids who struggle academically.
More and more, we’re supposed to grade students not only using a simple addition of grades, but on their progress and on other sources, such as conversations and observations. The last part, I can evaluate, that’s part of my job.

My main concern is that, when it comes to progress, it feels very subjective. I’m wondering if there would be a formula or at least some statistical tools that would allow me to take these parameters into consideration.
For example, if I have a student who’s had the following grades (in percentage): 50, 63, 73, I feel their grades should reflect the rising scores, without simply ignoring the first failing grade (here in Quebec, 60 is the lowest passing score).
It’s easier with student who keeps similar scores, an average works well. But what about a student whose grades are failing? Or with uneven scores (say 67, 42, 78, for example)?
Also, the tool would need to account for varying worth for each score.
Maybe I’m just trying too hard, maybe a total is the only way to go. I’m no statistician.
Thanks in advance!
