[SFH] [KS] Advice on HOA Discrimination

I have had a daycare in my home since 2018. My HOA wrote and told me it’s not allowed. There are other people who have businesses listed in their homes. They claim I can’t have mine as I have clients come in. However, there’s no such thing specified in our by laws. So apparently it’s ok to have a business if clients don’t come in? With this in mind, they are targeting and discriminating me as I am a brown person. Additionally, there was a lady who had a daycare when I moved here 18 years ago, and they did not have a single problem with her. In response to this, the president said they go after folks who have received a complaint. My letter came from the HOA after my special needs son who has a brain injury started receiving therapeutic services in home in 2022, as he gets therapy here so I can work from home. A parent must be here in order for him to receive vital services.

I live in Leawood, Kansas and the board had a special meeting and decided last October to hire a lawyer.

They are now planning to proceed with this and are allowing no home owners to vote, as they will only here our comments.

is there a way for me to conduct my business out of my home (that is licensed by the state) without all this hassle?
