i’m shopping around for a birthday gift, the person’s left-handed and their go-to pens at the moment are the basic 0.7mm faber castell ball pens (they don’t smudge and the little grip makes them easy to hold). i don’t know much about pens, but i know they’re gonna be writing a lot, so my general requirements for the gift are:
like i said, the person is left-handed, so it has to be pretty comfortable to use and hold without smudging the ink. they also have no experience using fountain pens so id rather stick to other types. they also have a light hand when writing and with normal pens that means the ink gets a bit patchy/doesn’t come out properly.
its not a niche brand. as much as i’d love to support little brands, it’s kind of hard to find something like that where i am right now, and i’d rather try to find something in person so i can hold and test the pen myself.
it’s budget-friendly. pens can get really expensive really fast from what i’ve seen, and i definitely can’t afford more than $50-70 for a pen, and it goes without saying but i’d like the ink refills to also be affordable and readily available.
overall, i don’t want anything fancy, just something comfortable, streamlined, and practical. i don’t even know if something that fits all these requirements exists, because any research i do goes straight to $3000 dollar pens without any real alternatives. i’d be really happy to hear any thoughts or suggestions from anyone here.
