We have just moved into a house with a beautiful established silver birch tree in the front garden (gets lots of morning sun, and afternoon shade). The roots are very shallow in the bed around the garden and previously just had tanbark. Looking for suggestions of plants that could work in this space, or whether I need to have raised beds? Would ideally love to attract bees and insects (not sure if salvias or hydrangeas could work). Some mushrooms are appearing in the dirt so I’m hoping the soil might be okay eventually. Thank you in advance! Located near Melbourne
