Folliculitis hair loss grew back

Wanted to share this in case anyone is going through the same thing and spiralling like I was.

I had pretty bad folliculitis on the back of my scalp/neck which caused inflammation and patches of hair loss. The first photo was during the worst of it, and the second photo is now.

Before going on Accutane, I was on doxycycline for months trying to clear it but it never fully worked. I also tried benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid which didn’t help either, but Accutane was the only thing that actually cleared it for me.

Once the inflammation settled, the hair slowly started growing back. It definitely wasn’t instant though, it took around 8 months after my scalp cleared for the regrowth to properly fill back in.

At one stage I was convinced the hair loss was permanent, so I know how stressful it can be seeing patches like this. I grew the back of my hair to hide the patches because I was so embarrassed but them. Just wanted to post this for reassurance that if the follicles aren’t permanently scarred, regrowth is possible once the inflammation is treated properly.

Happy to answer questions about my experience if it helps anyone.

Hair shedding only 1-2 months into Accutane and still hasn’t stopped 5 months after quitting

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share my experience with Accutane related hair shedding because I’ve been struggling mentally with it and I’m curious if anyone else has had a similar timeline.

I’m 35 male and started Accutane on April 9, 2025. I finished my course on November 24, 2025 (around 8 months)

Around the end of May / beginning of June 2025 (so only about 1 - 2 months into Accutane), I started noticing the shedding. From everything I had researched, most people seemed to shed toward the end of treatment or after stopping, so the early timing really confused me.

The shedding is across my entire scalp rather than just temples/crown so I’m pretty certain it’s TE. It’s now May 2026 (a year now) and I’m still shedding consistently, although I do see some shorter/thinner regrowth hairs across my scalp when I part my hair.

What’s stressing me out is:
- how long I’ve been shedding now
- it still feels like I’m losing the same amount daily

Has anyone had:
- shedding start this early on Accutane?
- shedding continue 5+ months after stopping?

I had already been on oral finasteride + topical minoxidil for years before starting Accutane, and my hair was pretty stable before all of this.

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone with similar experiences or timelines. I’m just not sure what to do from here and if this shedding is ever going to stop.
