First Night on CPAP

I picked up my machine and used it for the first time yesterday. I need some thoughts.

Resmed Airsense 11

Philips Respironics DreamWear Nasal

Auto Ramp Time

Pressure Relief On

Humidity 4

Standard Tube

After last night's sleep:

Used hours 7.4

Pressure 15.0

Leak 4L/min

AHI 15.1

Obstructive AHI 13.0

My first reaction when I put it on was to gasp for breath and move the nose piece away.

It almost felt like when you are in the wind and your breath "gets taken away" and need to turn away to get it back.

A couple times in the night I woke up feeling like I couldn't breathe. (I wonder if these were episodes that the CPAP couldn't overcome.)

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I'm not sure if it's just the adjustment period.

New to this. Need suggestions.

I completed my sleep study at the end of April and this is what I found out.

- an average of 22.3x/hr of nonbreathing events

- oxygen drops to 82% during events

- hitting 17% of REM

-events start as I'm entering REM

I was recommended for some type of sleep apnea intervention, but I have no idea what to keep an eye out for or to expect.

I go on Tuesday to be fitted for a mask. I'm trying to learn as much as I can because I have little faith currently with the med supply place. (Between being somewhat rude, not seeming organized, etc) I'm hoping the person that they have come for this stuff..is well.. good.

I know everyone is different, but when you first started, was there something you couldn't get to work, made it worse, etc?

I am graduating college this year. My sons are graduating high school and 6th grade next year.

I wanted to plan a graduation present for all of us.

We have 5 in our family - 2 adults, 18 year old, 12 year old, 8 year old (at time of travel).

We wanted to follow this rough itinerary:

Leaving from Northcentral PA

Heading to:

  1. Disney world

  2. Disney springs

  3. Universal Studios

  4. Cocoa Beach

  5. Lighthouses along the GA coast

  6. Myrtle Beach area

  7. Lighthouses along NC coast

  8. Assateague Island

  9. Smithsonians

Back to home.

I have hotels figured in:

  1. NC 1/2 way to destination (1 night)

  2. Orlando area (3 nights)

  3. Savannah, GA (1 night)

  4. Myrtle Beach (1 night)

  5. New Bern, NC (1 night)

  6. Assateague area (1 night)

  7. DC area (2 nights)

I am getting myself stopped with the costs already without even adding theme park tickets. With just gas and hotels we are at $2,700. (Ive considered camping, but that's rough after driving so long. Ive also thought about flying down, \~$400 with allegiant, but rental cars, holy cow $$.)

I am trying to give everyone stuff they love. The 8 and 18 year old love the beach, husband wants lighthouses, 12 year old and myself would good with all. I really want to see the wild ponies.

The original plan was to do Universal 2 days, Disney part day. We figured come home the coast because we have to come home anyway.

We don't do much travel as a family, this will most likely be our trip for the next 2-3 years.

Any suggestions on what to try to do instead? Ways to save money there and back? Tell me the realistic truths for this.
