I used a fat quarter bundle plus assorted scraps from my stash to make this queen sized Dresden Fan. The fans are hand appliquéd, though I did use machine embroidery stitches at the base of the blades. My free motion quilting is fairly dense because I wanted a lot of texture. I don’t think I’ve ever used a white backing before ( one doesn’t when one has multiple black Labs) but I do like the effect of morning sun shining through on the reverse. It feels good to get this one off the “projects to be finished” list.

I have a request to make a quilt something like this. I’m guessing it may be a Judy Martin pattern? I can reverse engineer it and come up with a close approximation, but I’d happily buy a book or pattern for the yardage requirement s and to streamline the process. Does anyone recognize this pattern?

My scrap management technique is to sort loosely by color and have a limited size bin for each color. When a bin gets full, my rule says I have to use it or lose it. This is my “great big scrappy quilt for 2025” and it helped lower the scrap levels in my blues and aquas bin. I didn’t use a pattern— just 4 patch blocks and half square triangles ( and a few charm squares). It’s a generous queen size and has already been claimed by my 3rd son😊
