Hi all !

Living and working in remote Aus for the last 2 years (12 months longer than I’ve planned). This job is great and it will suck to leave but I need to get to a capital city to be closer to family as at present I literally could not be further away from them, geographically speaking.

I’ve applied for two jobs which are currently shortlisting now (🤞🏼) however my existing contract states 3 months notice is required (I’m not in a senior/leadership position and have no direct reports). I understand I can negotiate this down but I have a feeling I’m unlikely to get it below 6 weeks (given the field of work and remote area) which could be a deal breaker for a new hirer.

So my question is, should I hand in my resignation in the coming week or two to start the clock so to speak so that if and hopefully when one of these jobs come through, I may only have 4 or less weeks left to go?

I’m aware of the risk of leaving without a job lined up but I’ve done the math and its manageable for a few months.

Thank you for reading !
