Eczema Remission Post Prednisone

Just curious to hear people’s experience on Prednisone and how your eczema was after tapering off it. Did it make symptoms more manageable even with not knowing your trigger? Or did it just make it much more worse like what I read online?

For context I never dealt with eczema or skin related problems until late 2023/early 2024 when I just woke up randomly to a itchy wet patch on my face and then from there on out it just spread over time. I have been on quite a few treatment options since then but I have a feeling my immune system went on overdrive or something since I started treating it medically because it kept popping up in places I never even had it before. I tried topical steroids, non topical steroids like Opzelura, ZoryVe, Vtama, Anzupgo. I tried Dupixent for a few months and that banged me up very badly on my face it seemed but it cleared up my body. I lasted only 3 months on that till I quit and switched to Rinvoq 15mg immediately and that was the first time I got relief in almost a year. I was on Rinvoq daily for about 1.5 years before I just got off it early April since my cholesterol levels were starting to get elevated. I also had started to deal with a few flare ups on my face. I was advised to switch to Nemluvio instead so I did that a month ago and took the loading dose. Within 7-10 days I dealt with the worst flare up on my face since quitting Rinvoq and being only on Nemluvio. Constant weeping, crusting and cracked skin that would also bleed. The fluid would go into my eyes and make it closed shut. It was horrible. I went back to the derm office again and this time with my typical doc and she told me to just go back on Rinvoq again which I was also agreeing on. I went on a course of antibiotics too and she told me that I can take Rinvoq again and it will clear up all soon. But I wanted to see if there was anything else that would help me and she told me I could take Prednisone but that it seems like that it may come back right again after stopping but she still prescribed it, and then to follow up with her after the course is finished.

I’m currently 9 days into my taper course and I’m pretty much cleared up. My face is clear, my skin on my body is mostly clear. I still notice my skin seems to be shedding quite a bit every day especially in the areas where I had eczema patches but they’ve turned into slightly darker hyperpigmented areas and not really visible/bothersome. Hoping that maybe my body finally gets a chance to heal but who knows at this point.

I just recently had to stop taking Rinvoq since it caused my cholesterol to spike up consistently over the last few months. Within a span of like 4 days my eczema came back with a vengeance on my face. Places I never dealt with rashes before either. I started Nemluvio right after stopping it and it’s been about 2 weeks into it and it doesn’t seem to be helping at all. Rinvoq worked so well for me and it’s sad I can’t take it anymore. They don’t lie when they say that coming off a Jak hits you like a train! Praying for better days ahead but man it’s killing me right now 🥲
