Throwback Thursday: Blake Lively’s Dailies Credibility Controversy

One of the more debated moments in the litigation centered on Lively’s repeated requests for access to the film’s dailies, followed more than a year later by a Sony executive’s message stating that she wanted some of the dailies destroyed.

Because the case settled before trial, the competing explanations were never tested before a jury.

⸻ Timeline:

June 13, 2023

Blake Lively asked Justin Baldoni for access to the dailies.

July 19-20, 2023

Lively again requested access to additional dailies. Baldoni responded that it was too early to share all of them because the edit was still underway, but said he wanted her input and planned to share footage once he had progressed further in the editing process.

August 29, 2023

According to later court filings, Lively complained to her representatives that she still wasn’t receiving access to the dailies and said what she had seen was “terrible.”

September 3, 2024

Sony executive Ange Giannetti texted another Sony executive: “Blake asking us to destroy some of the dailies… also going to ask Bridget to contact all vendors and ask them to delete all dailies and need them to proof. (1st time I’ve ever been asked to do this in movie with no nudity but ok.)”

That message later became public during discovery and quickly became one of the more discussed pieces of evidence in the case.

⸻ Deposition Testimony:

July 30-31, 2025

During her deposition, Lively testified that she never asked Sony to destroy the dailies and never asked anyone else to make that request on her behalf.

https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.634304/gov.uscourts.nysd.634304.874.17.pdf

She also testified that her attorneys negotiated with Sony regarding the handling of sensitive footage as part of discussions surrounding her return-to-work protections. Because the case settled before trial, there was never an opportunity for a jury to evaluate these competing accounts or determine what weight, if any, should be given to them.

A great post from our community to supplement this:

⸻ Discussion

* What was your reaction when this first surfaced?

* Did the Sony text exchange influence your view?

* Is there really a meaningful distinction between “my attorneys requested” versus “I requested it”?

* How significant do you think this issue would have been in evaluating witness credibility at trial?

Throwback Thursday’s: the Lively/Swift Extortion claims

Reminder that we have this recurring space to revisit the most interesting, contentious or wild aspects of the case, helping newcomers catch up and generating the dynamic discussion we all love.

We’ve added the flair *Throwback Thursday’s* for anyone who wishes to post their own throwback post on Thursdays.

Inspired by Travis and Taylor’s recent nuptials, I wanted to revisit one of the most unexpected twists in this case: Bryan Freedman’s affidavit detailing the alleged extortion claims between Blake (Ryan), Taylor and their respective lawyers, notably Mike Gottlieb.

In keeping with the love theme, on Valentine’s Day 2025, Freedman allegedly received a phone call from somebody “very closely linked” with Taylor Swift. During this phone call, the mystery caller detailed a conversation between Gottlieb and Swift’s lawyer J Douglas Baldridge, whereby it is alleged that Gottlieb requested a public statement from Taylor in defense of Blake and her noted absence from the Super Bowl. Allegedly, Gottlieb then stated that “ten years worth of texts” would be released should Taylor not acquiesce. The phone call with Gottlieb was allegedly terminated by Taylor’s lawyers at this point.

During the Feb 14th Call, it is also alleged that Blake had asked Taylor to delete text messages “4 or 5 months previously”, which would of course be late 2024 and just before the CLD + NYT Hit Piece were unleashed.

In response to Freedman’s affidavit, Lively’s lawyers released a statement to People Magazine, claiming (in a very carefully-worded statement): “we unequivocally deny all of these so-called allegations, which are cowardly sourced to supposed anonymous sources, and completely untethered from reality. The apparent intent of the Freedman letter is to launder scandalous and defamatory allegations about Ms Lively and opposing counsel into the press by abusing the court’s docket”.

Ultimately the affidavit was struck from the SDNY docket due to lack of jurisdiction, however this point in the trial was a lightening rod for discussion. Who was the mystery caller (cough Scott Swift cough)? Were the allegations of extortion true? What was more trustworthy: an affidavit filed by an Officer of the Court or a delicately-worded statement to People? Did this incident and the allegations have anything to do with Lively and Reynolds being missing from the wedding? So many lasting questions..!

Townhall Tuesday’s: Community Feedback Edition

Welcome to another Town Hall Tuesday!

We're mixing things up this week and focusing primarily on community feedback. We've made several changes recently, introduced a few new recurring threads, and wanted to take a step back to hear from all of you about what's working, what isn't, and what you'd like to see going forward.

As always, feel free to comment on topics not specifically covered below. If there are subjects you'd like addressed in a future Town Hall, we'd love to hear those ideas too.

  1. State of the Sub: What's Working?

What types of posts have you enjoyed most lately?

What kinds of discussions keep bringing you back to the sub?

Are the Daily Megathreads being used enough, or would you prefer we move away from them in favor of weekly Town Hall-style discussions?

Is there any content you'd like to see more of (or less of)?

2. Looking Ahead: Upcoming Litigation

A few major matters are still on the horizon:

What are your expectations for Jones v. Abel?

What are your expectations for Lively v. Wallace?

What unresolved questions or issues are you still most interested in seeing answered?

Are there particular filings, hearings, or developments you're watching closely?

3. Community Wishlist

What should stay the same?

What can be improved?

Do you have any favorite recurring threads?

Any feedback (positive or negative) on Throwback Thursdays, Town Hall Tuesdays, or Shitpost Sundays?

Are there any new recurring thread ideas the mod team should consider?

Would you like to see any AMA-style threads? If so, what topics or types of guests would interest you?

Final Thoughts

We've had a lot of changes recently, and we felt that warranted a dedicated feedback thread. Our goal is to better understand what users find valuable, what isn't landing as well, and where the community would like to go next.

Most importantly, we want this to remain a place where people are excited to participate, discuss the litigation, and engage with one another. Your feedback helps us shape future discussions and keep things fresh.

The floor is yours.

Prevention of sub brigading

I moderate a sub which continues to attract unwanted attention and brigading from another sub, which is typically composed of ex posters or posters who strongly dislike the sub I moderate. Whilst we have we have sub rules in place to prevent cross-posting, mentioning other subs or Redditors (and we obviously actively moderate these rules), we can’t do anything to control the other sub and the activity there. Mod messaging has been unsuccessful in the past and I believe individual users report problematic posts. Is there any other mechanism or approach recommended?
