Adding an imperfect accent to spotlight?
I’m a non-native actor currently teaching myself both an American accent and RP. Progress has been slow, so neither accent is perfect yet.
I’m thinking of recording a scene in an American accent and adding it to my Spotlight profile as my American accent reel. It won’t be flawless, but it won’t be terrible either - just something that demonstrates where I’m at.
My question is: is this a good idea, or could it do more harm than good? Could an imperfect accent reel put casting directors off, or is it better to show that I can at least act with an American accent?
I’ve seen plenty of shows where actors had less-than-perfect accents but were still cast. That made me wonder whether it’s worth giving it a try rather than waiting until it’s 100% convincing.
