Mastery Tracking

Hello, I'm a 3rd year science teacher at high school level using NGSS. For the past 3 years our PLCs have been working on unpacking and trying to build spreadsheets to track progress towards mastery. We demoed Mastery Connect since we use Canvas, but it didn't work well for our school. We now have moved on to creating common assessments and trying to track data with interventions, but it seems like every small group is doing something different and we have no common structure to our spreadsheets.

I created a program to try to build a common system of tracking and have shared it with my PLC, but I would like to try to get more feedback. I don't want to violate this page's rules, so I'm not selling anything and not promoting the program. I'm genuinely trying to get some feedback to improve it for next school year, so you can DM me if you'd like to look at it.

Teacher-built standards mastery tracker looking for beta testers

Hi everyone,

I’m a full-time teacher and over the last couple months I built a desktop app to help track student progress toward mastery of learning standards. I am not selling or promoting anything, just looking for feedback.

I originally made it because I noticed our school PLCs had so many different versions of spreadsheets and ways of tracking data. This also seemed to take a lot of time to figure out where students are when trying to convert a traditional grading scale to proficiency scales. I'm trying to simplify this by using data I already had in Canvas and using my program to track mastery. Our school tried tools made by the big companies, but they were rigid with limited customization and didn't work for our school.

The app is local-first, so student data stays on the device rather than being stored in the cloud. The only internet use is checking for software updates. The student data shown in the demo is completely fictional test data, not real student information.

Right now the software supports NGSS plus Common Core ELA and Math standards for middle school through high school. It also includes features for both Google Classroom and Canvas, so I’m especially looking for teachers who use either of those and would be willing to test those workflows.

Roster support currently works better with Skyward than PowerSchool since my district uses Skyward, but I’d still really appreciate feedback from PowerSchool users as well.

Here’s a short silent demo video showing the workflow/UI:

I’m looking for around 10 teachers willing to beta test the software and give honest feedback on usability, bugs, missing features, and whether this actually solves a real classroom problem.

I know this is a busy time of year and summer is coming up, so I’m not expecting a huge commitment. Active testers are simply those who install the software, explore the core features, and complete a short feedback form or submit feedback during beta.

Beta testing is free, and as a thank you, active testers will receive a free 1-year license when I officially launch (currently planning for August).

Thanks!

I’m a teacher and built a tool to track student mastery, would this be useful?

I’m a full-time science/cte teacher, and I’ve always ended up using spreadsheets to track student progress and mastery over time.

But I’ve found spreadsheets get messy quickly when trying to track growth, especially when working with skills or standards. Our PLCs all have different spreadsheets.

I decided to build a small desktop app that keeps all the data local on your computer. This is designed to help track student mastery/progress in a more structured way:

  • organize students by class
  • track skill/mastery over time
  • reduce reliance on complex spreadsheet setups

It’s still early, but I put together a few screenshots of what it looks like so far. I was a bit limited on what I can show since I have real student data in my program.

I’m not trying to sell anything right now, I’m just trying to figure out if this actually solves a real problem for other teachers or if spreadsheets already handle this well enough. I've just been testing this with my PLC so far with how we do things in my school.

Would something like this be useful in your classroom?
