Training physiological awareness in clinical practice

Not for the patient, but for the clinicians.

Training the physiology underlying cognition, emotional regulation, decision-making, as well as performance (IVs, Intubations…) is very useful.

Calm under pressure, therapeutic to the others on the team. Trainable.

Would love to hear how you train yourself for many years of high performance.

Hello! Long time CRNA, first time here.

Hi. Curious to learn about the community here. I love CRNAs.

I'm in solo, dental, office-based peds the last 2 years after working in hospitals and ASCs, both in care teams, and independent. Rush (2004!) for my masters, University of Washington for undergrad.

The book Avoiding Common Anesthesia Errors, 2nd edition” edited by Catherine Marcucci et al. has had a huge impact on how I've practiced - better planning, less clinical skill to bail out of trouble.

I've lead journal clubs and participated in Quality Review committees where we've learned from others mistakes.

I've been active in my state association in several roles, and just started teaching about high performance physiology for CRNAs. Clinician durability is my current and deep passion.
