Bankruptcy caused Quebec & Canada to stop quarterly GST payments ?
OK so I filed for bankruptcy last October. I am on social assistance in Quebec. Coincidentally my 9th and final payment to my trustee comes out today…..should have been a happy day, right ?
Even with a huge CRA debt(that is included in my bankruptcy ) , I have been receiving all kinds of back dated GST payments , the recent top-ups, as well as all the quarterly solidarity payments from Quebec(I never owed them as I moved back to QC in 2021 after 20 years in Alberta ). My welfare always comes in at midnight in my BMO account
So today, no CRA groceries benefit or Solidarity. I am sure this has EVERYTHING to do with my bankruptcy filing, as July 3rd payments are the first ones based on 2025 tax returns, which the trustee alresdy filed on my behalf
I will eventually get to the bottom of this, I just was really counting on that cash this month, after my rent is paid there’s nothing left(starting August I am $211 richer now that bankruptcy payments are done) Are they stopping payments for a year or more, is it a mistake, are there some debts that maybe aren’t getting written off?
