First Mini PC for Fedora/Linux Homelab – Minisforum AI X1 Pro HX 370 or 470 or something else?
Hi everyone,
I’m about to buy my first mini PC and right now I’m mainly considering the Minisforum AI X1 Pro, either the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 or HX 470 version.
My use case is mostly:
Fedora KDE Linux as my main OS
learning/studying IT and homelab stuff
virtualization with virt-manager/KVM
containers with Podman/Distrobox
SSH access from my iPad
some self-hosted services and NAS-related tasks
coding/scripting and general productivity
maybe experimenting with local AI models later on
I won’t really use it for gaming, and my internet connection is usually just my phone hotspot (sometimes through Tailscale).
What attracts me to the AI X1 Pro:
OCuLink support
relatively powerful CPU/iGPU
good Linux compatibility (at least from what I’ve read)
compact size and low power usage
What I’m unsure about:
firmware/BIOS quality and long-term reliability
fan noise and thermals
suspend/sleep stability on Linux
whether the HX 470 is actually worth the extra money over the 370
Minisforum support quality in case something goes wrong
Would you recommend it for this kind of usage?
Or is there something clearly better in the same price range from Beelink, ASUS, Geekom, etc.?
I’d especially appreciate feedback from Linux users and people using these machines as small servers/homelabs.
Thanks!
