I would like to get a decent stereo speaker system for listening to rock, pop and jazz. I’m not an audiophile and I don’t need anything loud, I’ll be sitting 2.5m from speakers. I’m looking something in the range of $1500 AUD and even used pre owned.

Is it a waste to put speakers on the end of the tv cabinet - are stands essential? I’m worried it will be too wide with stands, the cabinet is 1.8m wide. I’ll keep sound bar where it is. Does putting speakers on cabinet result in boomy or distorted sound? Solid timber.

My ears aren’t great so even Sonos Play 5 are probably OK but saw they’re 1800 pair which I could get used Kef speakers.
